Technical writer. Part time, 20 hours per week, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday schedule.
The technical writer will support staff in the engineering division by creating and managing documentation needs for Level 1 and other programs. In addition, the writer will support the engineering and mission division staff with a technical skill set aligned to documenting key descriptions of hardware, firmware, software or performance for use by both LL staff and sponsors.
Develop system and component level hardware documentation and assembly and test procedures in partnership with technicians, engineers, and program managers. This requires gathering information from engineers and techicians and from engineering drawings as well as from observation of the proceedures and deriving formal documentation describing the hardware and procedures completely, clearly, and unambiguously. Develop reports for internal and external use based on engineering-level input. This includes understanding powerpoint presentations, engineering descriptions and formal or informal documentation; creating a coherent document in, for example, MS Word or Adobe pdf, and following laboratory standard for report creation. Work with MAO and program staff to create, review, track and provide documentation for program close-out and for tech transfer to industrial partners as required. Edit and maintain program documentation sets. This includes setting up and maintaining revision control systems and documentation structures. Assist staff with technical publications and presentations.
Minimum education requirements are a BS/BA with proven writing skills. Science and engineering degrees and experience are valued. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, Project), Adobe Acrobat required. Proficiency with Matlab, Tortise SVN and SolidWorks highly recommended. Five or more years experience in technical writing, three of which should be in hardware documentation. The ability to develop technical documentation from engineering input with minimal supervision is required. Experience with Lincoln laboratory engineering procedures is highly desired.
