Job Description:

Special Talents & Qualifications (Security Clearance Level, etc): Client develops advanced laser communications technology for use in a wide range of challenging environments including terrestrial, space and underwater applications. Research in sensitive, single-photon-counting detector arrays, inertial sensors, novel modulation formats, and coding supports the development of communications systems with relevance to national needs. These technologies support the most sensitive optical communications links ever developed, enabling communication of several bits per detected photon across vast distances or through challenging environments with low size, weight, and power (SWaP) lasercom terminals which perform reliably over fading links. Using some of these technologies, the group is also investigating unique capabilities based on the quantum properties of light.

You will develop advanced system concepts and implementation approaches for undersea optical communication systems. Responsibilities will involve development and refinement of system architecture concepts, as well as implementation of subsystems, and simulation and analysis.

Qualifications: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Ocean Engineering or an MS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Ocean Engineering with 4 or more years of directly related experience will be considered. Experience in some of the following areas is desired: digital modulation and coding methods; familiarity with optical components and test equipment, familiarity with ocean optical properties and impacts on light propagation; experience building subsystems for undersea testing, deployment, or emulation of undersea environments.
