Job Description:

Special Talents & Qualifications (Security Clearance Level, etc): An IT Administrator is needed to maintain documentation and maintain computer systems over a full range of operating systems, but primarily Windows systems. In addition, the IT administrator will be asked to setup and upkeep local private networks used for file sharing and to interconnect Lincoln-built hardware and software subsystems for verifying interoperability.

In the computer admin role, the IT administrator will assist group staff in complying with information security directives; with the selection, purchase, setup, integration and testing of computer systems, peripherals, and network connections; diagnosing and repairing problems with computer systems, peripherals, network connections, and conference room audiovisual systems; applying patches and updating software and anti-virus software; performing data backups and recoveries; and interacting with outside vendors and other system administrators to coordinate procurements, installations, upgrades, and other services.

In the network admin role, the IT administrator will procure commercial networking gear and server hardware and interconnect these items into a local private network. The IT administrator will then provide upkeep and re-configuration services as project needs evolve. Implementing and administering the local network such that it is compliant with sponsor information assurance security requirements will also be required.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable with Windows system administration; configuring computer systems for use in controlling laboratory instruments and displaying laboratory data; and troubleshooting driver compatibility issues and other laboratory environment issues. In addition, the candidate is required to be familiar with networking hardware, administering Unix or Linux local-area networks and able to perform appropriate duties as the delegated Information Systems Security Officer for classified computing areas. Additional desirable skills include familiarity with LabVIEW, ION and ITOS.

Clearance Requirement: U.S. Citizenship and with a SECRET-level (or higher) clearance is required with the ability to obtain a TOP SECRET clearance.

Required Background
Ten or more years of system administration experience
A degree in an information technology related field, although additional experience can compensate for the lack of a degree.

Required Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to write purchase justifications, train users in complex topics, make presentations to an internal audience, and interact positively with upper management.
Independent problem-solving, self-direction.
Familiarity with the principles and practice of system configuration management using modern declarative tools; ability to model and reduce complex system requirements as configuration declarations
A solid understanding of an operating system; understanding of paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts
Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; ability to configure file sharing, ability to query DNS records, understanding of basic routing concepts.
Works well alone or on a team
Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (e.g. Perl, Python, VBScript, Windows PowerShell)

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
