Lincoln Laboratory is a fast paced, innovative, research and development environment with a reputation for excellence in the production of unique, prototype systems critical to national security.
The Mechanical Engineering Group has extensive capabilities necessary for the design of undersea, ground, airborne and space systems which allow us to tackle a wide range of technical challenges including large structures, space systems, and high precision optical systems.
The group is also the Engineering Division s center for CAD and data management.

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead the mechanical hardware design efforts of prototype systems development through concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases
  • Work as part of a larger, interdisciplinary team of engineers to support the execution of hardware development programs
  • Possess a good working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly techniques, CAD (Computer Aided Design) software, PDM (Product Data Management) and/or PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software, basic FEA, ASME drafting standards including GD&T.
  • Develop design concepts and layouts.
    Perform analysis as necessary in the support of design.
  • Produce finished manufacturing documentation consisting of 3D CAD models, assembly and detail drawings (including dimensional tolerances, surface finishes, and materials), and parts lists.
  • Prepare engineering release and change request documentation and fabrication orders.
  • Support the entire fabrication and assembly process, as required.

Design Engineers in the Mechanical Engineering Group require little supervision and perform assignments with creative ability, resourcefulness, and originality.
Design Engineers must take initiative and be thorough and detailed.
They must work effectively with individuals from various groups and at many levels of the organization.
They must also demonstrate effective communication skills.

Requirements

Experience designing opto-mechanics, structures, or electronic packaging preferred

Experience with Microsoft Office and SolidWorks preferred

A minimum of BSME from an accredited institution or ASME with 20 years of experience.
BSME preferred.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
