Employee Relations and Leave Manager

MIT Lincoln Laboratory (LL) is a Department of Defense Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) chartered to develop advanced technology in support of national security.
Research and development activities focus on long-term technology development as well as rapid system prototyping and demonstration.
The Laboratory works with government and industry to transition new concepts, technology and prototypes into future system development and deployment.

Job Summary

The Employee Relations and Leave Manager reports to the Deputy Director of Human Resources.
The incumbent will be responsible for a wide variety of employee relations, MIT employee leaves (both paid and unpaid), and other policy matters.
This includes employee counseling, performance management, complaint resolution, complex leave administration and recordkeeping.
Will be responsible for policy interpretation, ADA and FMLA cases and processes.
Will collaborate to identify diversity, equity and inclusion opportunities and programs.
Partner to support business process improvement and Digital Transformation efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise employees and managers on MIT and Laboratory Leave and all Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Manage complex ADA, FMLA, Extended Sick Leave and Long Term Disability cases.
  • Counsel employees and supervisors on policy matters and engage in problem resolution.
  • Harassment Policy compliance and support special investigations as needed.
  • Be a subject matter expert on MIT Personnel Policy and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Assist HR Business Partners and Lab managers in the development of Performance Improvement Plans and counsel employees as needed.
  • Serve as a resource to HR Business Partners on complex policy and leave matters.
  • Identify and support training needs for supervisors and employees.

  • Supervise and develop assigned staff in support of Affirmative Action Plan and leave use recordkeeping, tracking and notification processes.
  • Collect and analyze data and customer feedback to support business decisions.
  • Collaborate and team internally and externally in support of cross functional projects and initiatives.
  • Support diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and programs.
  • Identify business process improvement opportunities for service and efficiency improvements n support of Digital Transformation efforts.
  • Lead and/or represent the Laboratory s Human Resources Department on studies, working groups and task forces both internally and externally.
  • Will collaborate with stakeholders, MIT Campus colleagues, and leadership in the design of employment policies and programs.

Requirements

  • BS in HR or related discipline, HR professional certifications desired.
  • 5 years HR experience with demonstrated expertise in areas of responsibility.
  • Excellent oral/ written communications and presentation skills required.
  • Demonstrated complex problem solving skills needed.
  • Proven record of collaboration, teaming and relationship building required.
  • Strong project management and change management skills needed.
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority needed.
  • Work experience in a research and technology environment preferred.
