Staff Accountant

MIT Lincoln Laboratory (LL) is a Department of Defense Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) chartered to develop advanced technology in support of national security.
Research and development activities focus on long-term technology development as well as rapid system prototyping and demonstration.

Job Summary

The Financial Services Department is looking for a Staff Accountant, Accounts Receivable (AR) to join the Financial Accounting group.
Reporting to the Accounting Services Lead, the successful candidate will prepare complex invoices for the Laboratory s Prime Contracts and provide support to other staff on various types of other contractual billings (CRADA, STTR, Cooperative Agreements, etc).
Building relationships with business managers, contracting services and Government focal points will be essential.
This role requires the ability to effectively multi-task, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working under minimal supervision with strict deadlines.

The ideal candidate for this position will be able to:

  • Prepare invoices and submit to the government s Wide Area Workflow system (PIEE)
  • Analyze and reconcile billings and payments
  • Work closely Government finance personnel to identify and resolve billing issues
  • Respond to inquiries from sponsors & the laboratory community timely while providing exemplary customer service and escalating issues to management, as necessary
  • Maintain direct communications with sponsors and internal customers including program financial management staff regarding various expenses for billing and financial reporting purposes.
  • Prepare monthly accounting reconciliations and participate in accounting and financial audit testing as required.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration/Management
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in financial accounting, preferably in Accounts Receivable / Government Billing
  • Experience with ERP systems required.
    SAP Enterprise System preferred
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Office Suite experience; Excellent Excel skills
  • Ability to be resourceful in solving problems within the scope of responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to swiftly identify issues and escalate to management, as necessary
  • Highly organized with the ability to ensure the timely delivery of all responsibilities and assignments
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and follow-up skills required
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Collaborative working style to foster interpersonal relationships both within team and wider community
  • Excellent customer service skills required

Preferred

  • Experience with US Government Billings (Systems, Processes, Cost Vouchers)
  • Experience with FAR, CAS and/or OMB uniform guidance
  • Knowledge of financial operations of nonprofit organizations, especially colleges and universities.
